Ford Explorer and Mercury Mountaineer share the brakes and other internal components. Usually, mountaineer comes with the 4-wheel disc brakes. Replacement Procedure

Park the vehicle on a flat surface. Pull the vehicle hood by pulling the lever present under the driver’s side dash board and then move to the engine section. The cap is lifted from the master cylinder and brake fluid is removed from the reservoir. Master cylinder can be found on the right to the vehicle engine.

The lug nuts are loosened on all the 4 with the help of a 21 mm socket or lug wrench. The lifting jack is placed beneath the front frame and the lift the Sport utility vehicle. The jack stands is placed under the axle and support the vehicle on the stands. Remove the wheels by taking way the lug nuts. The front wheel is turned to get better access. The caliper bolts need to be removed with a 13 mm wrench.

Inserting the New Brake Pads

The caliper is lifted from the rotor and it is suspended above the brake assembly with the help of a bungee cord. The worn brake pads are taken away from the rotor and make sure that the new brake pads are perfectly inserted into the slots. The caliper bolts are tightened with the help of a 13 mm ratchet and socket. Turn the front wheels into the neutral position and screw the lug nuts by hand.

Finally, the vehicle needs to be lifted, and the jack stands need to be removed. The front tires are lowered to the ground and the lugs are tightened with a lug wrench.
